- Dear Customer,
-
- Welcome, and thank you for purchasing the full version of Saturday
- Night Snooker, undoubtedly the coolest and most entertaining snooker
- game to date. You chose wisely to buy this product, as not only does
- it offer exceptional value for money (you don't have to pay all the
- packaging, shipping and advertising costs incurred with commercial
- software) but the game offers a multitude of features and the elusive
- strip option not found on ANY other snooker simulation!
-
- This guide will be relatively short since the 500K of strip data
- used up most of the disk space. All the essentials are here, though.

- Section 1: Rules
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- The first thing you will notice about S.N.Snooker is that there are
- only 10 reds in the pack instead of the usual 15. Die hard snooker
- fanatics will surely be upset by this and I'm very sorry about that,
- but there are some good reasons for this.
-
- a) To make space for 15 reds would mean shrinking the size of the balls
- and smaller balls = poorer gameplay. Not good.
-
- b) Unless you were some kind of snooker ace, games would take AGES to
- complete with 15 reds. Time which, I'm sure you will agree would be
- better spend stripping the girls!
-
- c) All those extra balls would slow down the animation too much.
- I know - I tried doing it.
-
- You get the story...
-
- Those of you who bought Friday Night Pool will appreciate that I
- wanted to make a fun pool game rather than a serious simulation. I'm not
- knocking the other pool and snooker sims on the market - they're fine,
- but with F.N.Pool and to a greater extent with S.N.Snooker I've injected
- that "party" atmosphere to give some real incentive to beating the
- opponents. To compensate I've relaxed a bit on the rules, so free
- balls, misses and the like are automatically dealt with. I hope you
- will appreciate this as it does make the game flow smoother.

- Snooker
- ~~~~~~~
- Set-up: 10 reds plus colours arranged on their spots.
-
- Objective: To pot a red then a colour and so on until all the reds are
- cleared. Then the colours must be cleared in order of their
- value (yellow through black). Scores are accumulated by
- potting legal balls.

-
- General rules:
-
- - After a colour is potted it is replaced on its spot. If its spot

- Colours game
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Race against the clock to knock up as many points as you can by
- potting colours off their spots. Wickedly fast and very addictive!
- You need quick reflexes for this one.
-
- Set-up: 6 colours arranged in a triangle.
-
- Objective: To score as many points as possible within 2 minutes by
- potting high scoring balls (preferably blacks).
-
- Winner: The player with the highest score after each has played
- for 2 minutes.
-
- General rules:
-
- - Any number of colours may be legally potted in one go. The score
- will be the sum of all the colour values potted on that go.
-
- - Any balls potted after the "Time Up" flag will not be counted.
-
-
- Fouls and penalties:
-
- - Potting the cue ball or jumping the cue ball off the table.
- Penalty is time wasted re-spotting the cue ball inside the D.
- No other penalties are incurred.

- Section 2: Controls (Mouse/Keys/Joystick)
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- S.N.Snooker can be played almost entirely with the mouse, although
- the game can be played equally well with keys or a joystick, or
- a combination of these.
-
- I generally prefer to use keys on the snooker game and the mouse on
- the colours game for extra speed.
-
- On 2 player snooker I find that having one player on the keys and
- the other on the joystick works well.
-
- Note that the following cursor key and joystick movements affect the
- cue position in the following way:
-
- UP => Rotate cue clockwise 15 degrees
- DOWN => Rotate cue anti-clockwise 15 degrees
- LEFT => Rotate cue clockwise 1 degree
- RIGHT => Rotate cue anti-clockwise 1 degree
-
-
- Some other features:
-
- F1 => Change cue line spacing
- F2 => Change the colour of the baize (table cloth)
- F3 => Smash the balls randomly about (practice mode only)
- F4 => Re-rack balls (practice mode only)
-
- SPACE BAR => Plays a shot at medium power with no spin. Quite handy.
-
- ESCAPE => Hit when spin or power is activated to cancel the current shot
- settings. Hit again to quit the game (will prompt first).
-
- LEFT MOUSE BUTTON => On practice mode, move the pointer over a ball and
- hold down the left button to drag the ball across
- the table.
-
- RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON => Will remove the specified ball from the table
- (not possible on cue ball). This button also
- cancels a shot in progress.
-
- LEFT + RIGHT BUTTON TOGETHER => Pops a new ball up onto the table.
-
- HELP => The computer will play the "best shot" from the current table
- set-up. Again, only available in practice mode.

- Section 3: Winning at Strip Snooker
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- The rules for strip snooker are slightly different from strip pool.
- This time, you only play the person who you strip, and not all
- 4 opponents. So, if you want to strip Nicole, then you play Nicole for
- 3 straight games. For each game you win she will forfeit some of her
- clothes but remember - it's knockout, so lose any of these games
- and it's back to the start! By the way, anyone who manages to strip
- Beth will get an extra special treat...
-
- Having problems? Played the game for 6 months only to remove Nicoles
- shoes 8000 times?
-
- Okay - follow these 10 "Jon" tips to succeed...
-
- 1) Break from behind the pack - this usually splits the pack better.
-
- 2) Only go for shots you are certain you can pot, otherwise play
- safe and keep the cue ball at the far end of the table or
- preferably snooker your opponent. Aim for touching ball
- situations - the girls hate it!
-
- 3) Dont lose your cool. Think shots through, and max power is not
- always required.
-
- 4) Learn the potting area for the side pockets. They're a bit
- deceptive.
-
- 5) Play the colours game on practice mode to polish up your technique.
-
- 6) Use back spin with care. If you use back spin and a lot of power,
- then don't be surprised if you send the cue ball flying off the
- table. Keep that ball well clear of the bouncer - he's had enough
- to drink, and the further you keep it away from that chicks
- cleavage the better!
-
- 7) Have a coffee break between frames. Sounds daft but try it.
-
- 8) Take an extra few moments to position the cue on the colours
- game. Use the keys to fine tune the angle after approximating
- it with the mouse.
-
- 9) Also, on tricky shots, tap the ball into the jaws so that you can
- pot it easily next time around.
-
- 10) Don't expect to beat Beth at colours. I know - I've tried
- countless times without success! Best bet is to play Beth and
- Pam at snooker and only play Nicole and Claire at colours.
-
- I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has managed
- to beat Beth at colours!

- Section 4: Faulty disk?
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The utmost care is taken to ensure that this product reaches you in
- pristine condition. It should also be compatible with all Amigas
- with 512K or more using Kickstart 1.3 upwards. Each copy of the game
- is tested before dispach and only quality diskettes are used.
- However, in the unlikely event that the game does not load, then
- please return the disk complete with a brief description of the fault
- and I will endeavour to fix the problem in the shortest time possible.
